Is this an old modified brown bess?

Anyone have ideas? Been in the family for a long time, but don't know anything other than it's a smoothbore.

Nope, not even close. Looks like a mid-1800's English Fowling gun(i.e. single shot shotgun) that was used to hunt with at the time.

Here's one that's similar except that it has a back action lock.
