my plains rifles
these are my two plains rifles the top one is a ransum 50 cal and the bottom one is a pedersoli tryon .54 plains rifle, the tryon is a very early one it has .54 on the barrel but it has a .530 bore so it is relay a 53 cal the 50cal has a 1 in 48 twist and the tryon has a 1 in 47 twist the rear sight on the tryon is dovetailed between the barrel wedges the newer ones have the dovetail in front of the forword barrel wedge.

Beautiful!

Beautiful rifles. I am envious.

Very nice. Love the curly maple.

Works of art, both. That Tryon wood is especially nice and a little surprising for a Pedersoli.

The Australian "frontier" ran a course from about 1770 up until the 1930's. What was the gun of choice on the Australian frontier and the Australian plains? I'm guessing some American rifles, but British Enfields, and Martini's? mostly?
