Looking for a musket ID

Hi, I'm hoping to find a little more information about a musket I have recently inherited from my grandfather. Its not in very good shape so I'm doubting it is worth much, but I'd still like to get an idea of what it is and how old it is, even if it is just a mantle piece. Most of the plates are really worn down, as well as the inlay of the stock, but I'm able to make out "H.T. WOOD" on top of the barrel, "Partridge" on the right plate, and "G.I. jANNASCH" at the back of the barrel. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been getting more and more into firearms this past year, bought 2 pistols for the range and just shot trap for the first time with the double barrel I inherited with this musket. I'm really enjoying the sport and learning a lot.

Well it`s a Hawkens style percussion rifle, but I don`t recognize the wording on the rifle, maybe somebody else does........

That is a nice find. You have a Post 1820 Half Stock Rifle maybe Ohio made. The wording on the lock plate is the company selling the lock. The makers name can be found in the listing of early gun smiths in America. That is a valuable rifle. Please do not retouch it any way. Nice.:)

I might add "Wood" was the builder the "G.I. Etc." was the barrel maker. The barrel is the late period bolster Perc type. This was most likely an 1840-1860 rifle. It is Post Federalist Period but the owner used the Eagle Inlay he was most likely a veteran. The rifle has been fired as it has a modern perc. nipple looks like a #11.:)

RIGHT ON nightstalker! It is an Ohio style target and hunting rifle.
