Skull - have you tried placing the tube in the freezer for a while? I've had tubes for years that never liquified. Hawg is right about using it for a patch lube - in fact I think on the tube itself it mentions placing some in a small pan, heating it to the point of liquification, and soaking dry patches in it for use with patched RB rifles and pistols. The same can be done to lube conical bullets - dip them and let it solidify.
It also makes a great after-cleaning anti-rust treatment for the bore. After cleaning, rinse with boiling water down the bore, the water evaporates leaving a dry bore - then run a patch thoroughly coated with Bore Butter through the barrel. The barrel being hot from the boiling water melts the Bore Butter and allows it to flow into the pores. This will prevent rust and "condition" the bore much better than any petroleum product - and it lasts much longer too. As long as you stay away from petroleum-based cleaning products and lubricants, you will notice much longer times between swabbing when at the range.

I put it in the fridge right after I found it liquid. It made no change, but I put it in the freezer after I read your post. I've used the stuff and I like it. I have heated a glob in an old spoon. My ex-wife caught me in the middle of the act and nearly freaked. Then she got pissed from my laughing while trying to explain. True story.

LMAO! I hope you didn't have any syringes in the vicinity!
BTW, did the freezer help?

No syringes visible at the time. I use some bigger ones of epoxy and some marinade injectors when building fishing rods. She got over it when I dipped some pads and ran it down the bore. Good times...

Freezer froze it solid. I'm gonna let it thaw a little and see what I get. Like I said, I bought more so no biggie. Interesting little experiment, tho.

Ok. The stuff thawed and it returned to the liquid state. I will keep it and use it for swabbing, but I can't use it as a chamber seal on my SA revolvers. Kinda funny, as I have never had this happen. Thanks to all replies.

That is so weird. I have a tube that's at least 10 years old. It sits in my cabin during winter cold and summer heat and it hasn't changed at all! The Bore Butter Gremlins must be alive and well....

Yes, very weird. Like I said a few times, just one tube out of several. No matter, I marked it and put it back with my bp stuff. If I shake it up, it gets a little less watery. It is what it is at this time. I'm still a Bore Butter fan because of my usual experience with the stuff. Thanks again.

My thoughts exactly, Hawg. It's gotta be something out or extra in, either way it is a bad batch of something. No biggie. I love the stuff with all the right amounts of stuff in the stuff.

I use Bore Butter as lube on my .50 Hawken- but for a BP revolver, I use Crisco over the chamber mouths. Cheap, available, and no cholesterol
