Fella brought this over for me to ID.. LOL well there are no markings on this rifle to work off of so I thought I'd post here for the experts to chime in... The ONLY markings on this rifle are a "P" and a "1" on the inside of the barrel. It's a P over 1.. appears to be .50 cal. The fella is offering it up for sale so I'd like a good assesment if possible.

Looks like a Hawkens rifle kit to me, rather nice one too.................

It looks very much like a Green River Mtn. Rifle made from a kit. The GRs were quality made in Roosevelt, Ut. in the 1960s. The Browning Mtn. Rifle was a copy of the GR. Can you see the likeness?:)

Yup. Kit of some kind.

I've got it identified for you. It's gorgeous.
I'm wondering though, if that's "browning" or rust on the barrel? |

From the link, it appears that the TOW kit ruins 175-220. Are you looking to sell it? Or trying to find out if you paid too much?

The "Hawken" today is a style of rifle that can be made by anyone. Hawken is a loose discription for any short half stock BP rifle of the late perc era. As a matter of fact back in the days they were refered to as "Yeagers" by the early hunters on the high plains. A Hawken type was a name made popular by movies. The Hawken Bros. gun shop had closed by the time they were famous.:(
