Has anyone used a cap and ball revolver to hunt with and what did you get? Small game or Deer? __________________ “There are hundreds of millions of gun owners in this country, and not one of them will have an accident today. Not that I am going to hunt with a Cap and Ball Revolver but can you please tell me why it's not legal? Just asking my usual questions and trying to learn. __________________ Honor Student: School of Hard Knocks

lack of power. There is a minimum size for rifles, minimum caliber for muzzleloading rifles, and a ball and cap revolver was felt to be too low in energy to insure a clean kill. __________________ What we have heah is.... failure to communicate. |

007, check youtube. I was thinking about getting a walker repro, and came across some videos of it being used in hunting. I've also found some articles and write ups on it. __________________ LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!! |

Here you cant even have a handgun on you while hunting. They will assume since you have it on you that you intended to hunt with it and will fine you accordingly. |

DNR only has limits on minimum cal. and barrel length and they even count the length of the cylinder as part of the barrel on revolvers. I have Remington Army and would carry it only to finish off a deer in the event my rifle shot didn't do the job. Must take that back... Must be a center fire cartridge of more then .22 cal.

007,
Never hunted deer with one. But have hunted groundhogs with a Navy model 36 Cal. on many occassions just for fun. Did good job and was a blast! " " I suppose you could hunt deer with the 44 cal Black Powder Revolver is your state law permits it. I have a 44 New Army but never hunted with it. I guess I have never checked on that in Tennessee! But probably would still use my Thomson Hawken 50 Cal Rifle for deer.

When I was a kid, I knew an old man who had his grandfather's Colt .36 cal handed down from the War of the Southern Rebellion. He used it as a wall-hanger in his nursery office and for shooting bunnies stealing nibbles from his nursery stock. It worked well but Ive never had to do that. |
