Handbuilt BP revolver.

20 or so years ago my stepfather worked as a machinist He built this in his spare time. The only thing he had help with was the rifling. He even made the springs and screws.

Cool. It looks like a 1860 Colt Army. How long did it take him to make?

Looks more like the old remington to me.

It took him quite a while. ( around 6 months) Then again he was not in a hurry. and just doing it in his spare time.

Ummmm, it looks nothing like a Colt. It looks like an 1858 Remington.

TB did he build it off an original or a clone?

towboater 01-11-2012 04:33 PM

Im not sure. He said someone brought in a frame for him to copy off of.

Hawg 01-11-2012 05:11 PM

I was just wondering cuz the grips look like they have a Pietta flare.

Oops, my bad. I google 1860 colt first, and I guess it pulled up a Remington (or at least something that looks like a Remington) in the results (dang you google).:D

Hey Towboater , I dont know much about the old originals , but I can say your stepfather was extremely talented regardless :D
One thing that strikes me odd in the picture is the grip frame angle as compaired to the Reproductions ? It appears at a different angle than those , maybe the originals are different than the Repros in that instance ? Maybe Hawg would know this , FOR SURE HE WOULD ;)
