Flintlock Musket Muzzle Diameter?
 

Hello fellows can someone tell me the diameter of a common Napoleonic era flintlock musket? Is it around 4-5cm? Thanks guys!

That would be likely to be the 1777 Infantry Musket. Flintlocks, replaced by percussion cap rifles in the early 1800s. Nominally, about .69 caliber, or about 17mm in diameter. Something like this one:

Ummmm- a 5cm bore would be 50mm, or about 2 inches in diameter. Small cannons were that size.

Thank you C3Shooter. I was thinking about a Brown Bess but the 1777 Infantry Musket is similar too. So a 1800 Flintlock would have a bore diameter of around 17mm-20mm? Thanks in advance :)

That would depend on whether it is an original rifle with a hand hammered barrel or a reproduction? Keep in mind, a 233 year old rifle isn't going to represent the barrel diameter of the original manufacture anyway.

A reproduction will depend on where the barrel was made. Why do you need the information?

At the muzzle, a bit less than an inch (25mm) in external diameter. If you have access to a socket bayonet for a rifle of that period, measure the hole in the socket.

I believe you are correct. I'd like to be there to watch though. When I was a young man I would have tried it. But the arthritis makes me a little circumspect with heavy recoil.
