| ???BlackPowder Pistol???
Have had this pistol for sometime but never shot it. I have no idea about it at all. Was thinking of giving it a go. Can you tell me a little about it? It is a 44 cal. and has Fillipietta on the barrel.
What Powder do I use?
What size balls?(that doesn't sound right)
How much Powder?
What kind of measure?
What about caps/primers(whatever you call them) They go on the nipples (Again Odd)?
What about sealers for the cylinder?
That kind of info. Here are a few Pictures. It's rough, I will clean it up. |

First, the maker is F. Lli Pietta.
Second, here is the manual on your revolver. Enjoy-

Powder- either Black fffG (3F) or Pyrodex P or equivalent. If you ever use smokeless powder in one, I will use a Sharpie to write insulting messages on your tombstone.
Soft lead round balls- .454. They will be a smidge too big- that's OK, they shave off a little lead when loading.
Yes, you use a sealer over the lead ball. I use Crisco. There are several things that CAN be used.
Print da book. Read da book. Then get back to me with any questions- capiche? __________________ What we have heah is.... failure to communicate. |

its a replica of a colt. maybe 44 caliber. if so, get .450 round balls and either fffg or pistol pyrodex powder.
load cylinders to where ball seats a little less than flush in them. put bore butter or crisco over each ball to keep from chain firing. use #11 percussion caps. |

Pyrodex powder. Google pietta .44 instruction manual and download. Go to Cabela's and I believe you can download their blackpowder arms instruction manual, it's generic but it will answer about every question you might have. Make sure you totally disassemble and clean and oil completely after firing. A dab of Crisco over each loaded chamber will prevent a chainfire and is easy to clean... __________________ TACTICAL22.NET,NRA, VCDL |

I've got an 1851 Navy me-self. Good gun.
Ditto c3shooters comments, except I will use a can of spray paint instead of a sharpie.
Seat the ball firmly on top of the powder charge, don't leave any empty space under the ball. I don't do a whole lot of BP shooting, so I prefer to use wonder wads over the powder charge instead of the Crisco over the ball as it is less messy. But as was said there are several options that can be used.
Now go make some white smoke! __________________ What is this 100m you speak of?! Here in AMERICA we shoot in YARDS boy, a meter is something I use to measure voltage with.

So the plunger thingy doesn't seat the ball where it needs to be? |

the depth the ball is seated is determined by the amount of powder.
just make sure that the ball seats firmly against the powder |

The plunger thingy will put the ball where it need to be, so long as YOU do your part, and don't stop ramming it too soon.
download the book. Read the book. __________________ What we have heah is.... failure to communicate. |

Try it at dusk to see the flash; it was well worth it on my lil sidelock pistol, like a pistol and fireworks all at once.
