I've never seen a Walker replica up close so I can't visualize how the catch can be on the opposite end of the loading arm.

After the experience I had with my brass framed Sheriff's Colt, I'll never own another. So far the Spiller and Burr has held up nicely over 25 years, but it is not an open top Colt design either.
Part #532. The T-shaped piece on the left just as the barrel changes from octagon to round.

15 grs. for a Colt .36 should let it last a long time. You'll see the cylinder ratchet start to imprint itself in the recoil shield before any major problems arise.

Wow - thanks for the schematic. I have their new catalog, but it's not as informative as the one I bought in 1987 - more crap and less schematics. Looks like a piss poor design - I wish I knew why Colt decided to change over from their tried and true catch on the muzzle end of the lever. I was watching Lonesome Dove last night and Gus had what looked like a Walker conversion. Riding at a gallop on horseback I was waiting for his lever to drop - it didn't!

The 5" Brass framed Colt Sheriffs revolver I had was a .44, and when the .454 ball imprinted itself on my left thumb I decided to store it in Davey Jones locker! I never loaded more than 25 gr. at any time. It had only been shot a dozen or so times before it shot oiut of timing..I load 18 grains in my .36's when I shoot round balls, and 15 gr. when I shoot conicals. With a .375 conical there's not much more room for powder.

I can tell you first hand, the loading lever keeper on the walker isn't much of a keeper! Anyone who owns /shot one will tell you, the lever falls. If I'm not mistaken, if you watch "Outlaw Josey Wales" closely, in one scene, the lever is down on his walker.

On the other hand, my Ubertti 3rd model dragoon arrived today . She sure is sweet. As soon as the blastfurnace summer temps back off, it's out to the range ............................markerdown

Cool deal! Post a range report after you throw some lead!
I just cast a bunch of Lee Conicals for my Old Army which I plan on shooting this weekend. It's been at least a decade since I shot it. Can't wait!

Ok, here are some pics of my revolvers. I have an 1860 I didn't take a pic of. I found the original box from the walker, it's an ASM, I bought it in 1980 and the price on the box; $108.

ASM Waker (top), new Uberti 3rd Model Dragoon (bottom)

Colt replicas with new Pietta 1858 Remington

These were the last two BP revolvers on my "bucket list" I'm still waitin on the Lyman GPR .........................markerdown

Beautiful Marker! I never realized the Dragoon was so close in size to the Walker - looks like the only difference is barrel length?

The dragoon has a bit better balance to it. Barrel length is 7.5" opposed to 9" on the walker. The one I have is the civilian model. Other differences are the square cylinder stops, rounded trigger guard and the loading lever keeper. The uberti is a well put together gun, and so is the asm. The grips on the walker are a bit thinner which makes it feel more nose heavy. Could be just an asm thing. They should interchange and I'll see if it makes a difference. Other than that, they are pretty much identical. Horse pistols sure are fun :-)......................markerdown

I have two Uberti's - an 1849 Colt Pocket pistol with stage coach robbery scene engraved on cylinder, and an 1851 Colt Navy with battleship scene - they are both of excellent quality. When you gonna post a range report? I'm guessing they both take .454 RB's ? My Old Army shoots Lee Conical .456's pretty accurately, but an article I read claims the round balls are the most accurate...?
