1860 .44 anyone hunt with one?
I was just wondering If anyone has hunted.with one of these pistols?
|
No, but I did with a '62 colt police. they sight in a ridiculously long range and cannot be adjusted very easily. A squirrel gun for really close ranges.
The 1858 Remington is far better for hunting, there is even a target sight model with adjustable sights from Pietta and also Uberti both, I think. Remington sights are better, there is a real rear sight, not just a notch cut in the hammer itself. |
Here In VA, not legal for anything except small game- and I consider a .44 to be a bit much for squirrel and rabbit.

If you would be comfortable shooting a deer with a 38 special +P then go for it.

The Colt Walker used to be called the worlds most powerful handgun, back before some of the modern magnum cartridge guns.
To shoot powerful .36 and .44 conicals (instead of round ball) you need bullets with rebated or would you call it chamfered heels. Like these (all out of stock, but worth hunting for)... http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?products_id=3629 http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?products_id=3630 http://www.buffaloarms.com/Muzzleloading_Revolver_Bullets_it-652118.aspx?TERM=44050 http://www.buffaloarms.com/Search.aspx?TERM=36050 It would really work well in the Walker , I bet. I used them in .36 and they work well... |
