Default1858 New Army Stainless Steel Revolver with Conversion Cylinder

I have a brass frame 1858 clone that has been great to shoot.
But I have been looking at the 45 Colt Conversion cylinders and I have read that you need a Stainless steel frame.
Now, whether that is true or not I have always wanted a Stainless 1858, so why not.

What is the difference between the following two cylinders and will either of them fit on the below 1858 New Army?

Howell's Old West Conversions Drop-In Conversion Cylinder 44 Caliber Uberti 1858 Remington Steel Frame Black Powder Revolver 45 Colt (Long Colt) 6-Round Stainless Steel - MidwayUSA

Howell's Old West Conversions Drop-In Conversion Cylinder 44 Caliber Pietta 1858 Remington Steel Frame Black Powder Revolver 45 Colt (Long Colt) 6-Round Stainless Steel - MidwayUSA

Cabela's -- 1858 New Army Stainless Steel Revolver with 5-1/2" Barrel

Midway has been known for high prices. A cylinder for almost $300? You can almost purchase a .45 SAA from Ruger for that. I wouldn't bother unless you have money to burn.

BTW, I own both, cap and ball, and SAA's.

Why bother with a $300. ad on, when you can get an entire pistol for not much more?

The brass framed BP revolvers are not as strong as steel. I don't know why they would specify stainless though.

My .44 cal Walker Colt shoots .454" diameter round balls.

I know I could own a Ruger SA for less but I love the look of the 1858, but I want cartridges.

No, you need a steel frame, but it doesn't have to be stainless. The Howell (formerly R&D) cartridge conversion cylinders come in blued steel to match blued revolvers, and in nickle plated steel to match stainless revolvers.

One will fit Uberti revolvers and the other will fit Pietta revolvers. Which one you get depends on who made the revolver.

.44 percussion revolvers have .451 inch bores. Don't ask me why, I didn't design them.

Thanks for the help guys.
I looked on Uberti's site and I think I am going to buy the Uberti stainless 1858 8" and buy the Blued Cylinder for a two tone look.
