If you look at stopping power and plan for a worst case scenario (BG hopped up on drugs and feeling no pain), ANY .22 will be off the list of guns you choose. Actually, even a .45 won't take out many wacko meth heads in only one or two shots unless the shots are in the "kill zones" of the head or heart. OTOH, a well placed .22 has killed probably as many people as a 9mm if you don't count the military and police application of the 9mm. I wouldn't choose a .22 as my first go-to gun in a personal defense situation, but they are still viable and it still beats throwing rocks!

FWIW, I have a number or .22 rifles and pistols (probably a dozen) and I have found the "tactical" 15-22 to be a very nice gun. It's accurate, light, has room for accessories w/o adding aftermarket mounts and with the AR style butt stock, I can adjust the gun to fit me, my wife or my three kids by simply sliding it to the best position for the particular shooter. Personally, I wish S&W would make a 15-22 in 22WMR, I'd be the first in line to order one since I think the WMR is a perfect compromise between the little .22LR and the "big" .223/5.56 center fire rounds. In my view 15-22 in .22MAG would make an outstanding small game/varmint gun, give you added range and punch over the 22LR w/o having to go to a center fire round and if you were to hit an intruder with a proper SD round like the Hornady Critical Defense round, you get similar results to the .38SPL according to the stats.

I have the colt m4 .22 and love it super light and accurate! Cheap to shoot! But idk if I'd be grabbing it to take out anything bigger than a non living breathing silhouette target!

What a great idea! I mean maybe not for home defense as I have better choices, but I am loving .22 mag lately and a 15/22 mag would be awesome. Better yet, hey S&W, make me a .22 mag upper! If ruger can have a convertible revolver, why not a convertible .22 ar? I know they used to make a 10/22 mag but not convertible.

I have both 10/22 & s&w 15/22. They are both fantastic and u cant go wrong with either.

What about using the 10/22 Charger for a tacticool assault pistol?

I invented fun. Tactical .22? Not so much. Very serious. Oh, and here's my "tactical" 10/22 rifle -- for Liberty Training.

We've been using 22lr in Special Operations for a long time. They however have a very specific use.
If you are looking for a general purpose tactical rifle, I certainly wouldn't recommend it.
If it were me I'd arm up with what I'm used too. A few that jump to mind are the AR, AK, a good shotgun, with a variety of shells.
