Wont chamber

I got a sears model 25 .22 rifle. It says it shorts 22 shorts. Since everyone is out of 22lr I picked up two 50 packs of shorts. I put about 11 of them in the tube and they won't chamber. I finally got one to chamber and it didn't fire. What do you guys think I can do to get the gun to fire them. Thanks

The old joke about the computer IT help desk is that the standard phone greeting is "Thank you for calling IT support. Please hang up and reboot."

In a like manner, most of the problems you mention will be caused by dirt/ lube problems, or broken parts. Your rifle should be a High Standard A1041, and SHOULD be for .22L or LR, and .22 Hi Speed Shorts.

Would begin by taking down the rifle, scrub the bolt, extractors, firing pin channel and the chamber. While the action is out of the stock and the rifle is UNLOADED, cycle the action by hand and see if parts like the cartridge elevator are working, etc.

.22 RF ammo tends to be really dirty, and frequently the buildup of carbon, wax lube from bullets, leftover peanut butter from your sandwich, etc gums up the works. Before a trip to the smith, hang up and reboot - sorry- hang up, clean it.

Thanks for the info. I just cleaned it but might have to do it better. I had it all apart. I fired 20 rounds of 22lr in it to sight in my new scope. Then I put the shorts in.

Think if I oil the tube feed spring in the rod that might help. Just don't get it. It feeds 22lr fine.

which shorts are the problem???

SSGN_Doc 01-20-2013 03:35 PM

I've seen several tube fed .22s that won't feed anything from the tube other than LR. anything else had to be single loaded.

I would just use long rifle in it, shorts were always a problem in any type of feeder weapon. Shorts are usually for bolt action single shot or revolver pistols.

With 22lr being tuff to find I was just going to try the shorts cause everyone had a bunch of them. Ill try cleaning the tube feed, feeding rod, and chamber and see what happens. At lease I'm only out $8 for the ammo. Just will sit in my ammo can forever.

My Marlin M60 won't cycle shorts either kinda sucks but it's not like I need them

You kniw instead of wasting 8 bucks, you could go buy a inexpensive 22 pistol to shoot those in lol, just saying
