For $125, the Mossberg .22 Plinkster is a really great shooting rifle to own.

Got the smile part...needed the eyes...LOL...but a gust caught me off on the last two bullets...

Marlin 25MN/25M/882/925M/982-series(heavy barrel)/XT22M series all share parts and you can put an XT trigger into a 25MN & the others...

The big differences are the stocks & trigger assemblies (25 is pretty basic, the 925/982 have the T-900, & the XT series have the Best trigger...adjustable)

As it stands, my Marlin 25MN usually shoots better than I can
Not to mention being less expensive than most offerings out there...

As to which is the best for the money, that's a tough question. All the major manufactures make a pretty good product, and generally the more expensive a rifle is the higher the quality. The Ruger M77/22 looks to be about the best quality .22 mag, but you'll pay for it. I think you're just going to have to look at the models and figure out which one you like for the money.

Oh, and if you like Semi-auto .22WMR, there are few working options...
Grendel R-31 (own, requires Goldenloki.com reliability treatment, works fantastic after!)
Marlin 922M (own)
Keltec RMR-30 (want to own)
H&R 700 (hard to find, but worked well!)
Volquartzen's .22WMR (too expensive...)
Magnum Research's .22WMR (too expensive...)

The ones that don't work well or generally suck for other reasons...
Excel Accelerator (don't want)
Ruger's 5-times discontinued 1022M (more problems than a Yugo...that's why they sold it to MR & VQ)
I'm thinking there's one or two more..., but they suck, so it doesn't matter

CZ reportedly also recently came out with a .22WMR semi...but I've yet to test one.

I have a Winchester 9422m, I see them for sale in my LGS every now and then.

For semi-auto if you could find an H&K model 300, you would not be disappointed.

As far as new guns, Henry makes both levers and pumps in a 22 mag.
