Whats causing these shortages?
Quote:
We are .
The hoarding behaviour of the shooting community is what drve up prices
There are probal yguys sitting on 100,000 rds who will never use it.
One ht eotehr hand in the last couple years there should be some private party deals out there for ammo.

Better be safe than sorry, no? Besides, even when there has been no panic buying these last couple years, and ammo has been plentiful, prices have continued to go up. It's called inflation. Seriously, how many people can afford to buy 100K rounds and not use it? I'll tell you what, If I could, I would.
To be honest, I have not seen a jump in ammo prices as of the last few weeks. Most of the problem seems to be availability. $4.95 for a 100 count box of CCI sounds like a deal to me. (I pay $6-8+ locally.) If you can't afford that without whining, maybe you should find a new and cheaper hobby.

That price was back in 1999,LOL. I've not had any reason to buy any 22lr recently since I've not owned one since before 2000.

Where do you think the ammo is. People are panic buying like a 1929 run on the bank. The sellers are raising prices because.....because scared people pay.
Reminds me of Y2k and the 2008 elections. You will see plenty of the stuff for sale in a few months when the fear subsides.

With 22lr and 22 Mag being so expensive it really makes more sense to just get a rifle in 22 Hornet so you can reload for about $6/50, you'd get more "bang for the buck" and not spend anymore and in the case of the 22 Mag a lot less. JMHO, YMMV.

In late 2008 I had paid for two days of firearm training 500 miles from home. I couldn't put my hands on 500 rounds of .45 acp for love or money. I bet I stopped at 20 places on the drive before I found, and paid tourist price, for the last few boxes. Since that adventure, I have kept enough on hand to wait out the shortages without reducing my plinking or serious practice.
It will probably take 60 to 90 days for the supply to catch up with demand. Nobody could have predicted the run on guns and ammo. It was the perfect storm with the reelection and the mass shootings. In the modern economy, all retailers depend on nearly instant replinishment of their products, so they don't stock more than a weeks supply of anything.
One thing that you can depend on... When the retailers see what folks are willing to pay for their products, the price will go, and stay, up. Greed is what makes the world go round.

Unfortunately your right. I hope a few of the good guys will stay that way. I shopped at a new gun shop yesterday and got a great deal I hope he stays the way he is.

Oh. Still, a box is maybe 8 bucks now, and I bet you could do better. That is about an increase from then till now about like everything else has seen.
