You can't just go shoot a 10/22. You have to make it look you stole it from Darth Vader before firing it.

That's too funny, and very true. So many aftermarket parts to make a 22 look "intimidating" - how did that trend ever get started I wonder?
I really enjoy my 10/22, the kids like it because it doesn't kick at all, I marvel at the accuracy. If I ever decide to hunt squirrels or rabbits, I'm good to go. Fun gun!
First thing I'd do is buy a bottle of CLP and a bore snake - 500 rounds is fun but oh so dirty.

Clean the bbl REALLY well first...
The factory goop they use as a rust inhibitor will gum up the grooves pretty good and it's a royal PITA to get it out...
Go ahead and get an inexpensive scope too. It can shoot farther than you can see...well, for me anyways...
Gotta have a sling...

http://www.coolguyguns.com/Bolt-Buffer_p_12.html KiDD Bolt buffer !!!
Going in my takedown before the first round is fired. The stock bolt buffer in your rifle is just a steel pin and when the bolt cycled there is hard metal on metal contact which causes vibration and if you're using high velocity ammunition can actually egg out the bolt buffer pin holes on the reciever.
The KiDD bolt buffer has a rubber sleeve over the kidd pin that has a lifetime warranty and also takes the metal on metal contact out in turn reducing felt recoil cause of the lack of concusion and makes it safe to fire high velocity rds without having to worry about egging out the receiver as well as quieting down the action and reducing vibration. And best part of all it's only 5.95 I even just got free shipping on it .

haha I understand that point of view, only reason I didn't get a Marlin is because I don't personally fancy the tube feed, rather have mags.

I would buy a good 1" Diameter Tube Scope on it with mounts. Do not mess with one of the smaller tube scopes. There is no comparison. If you can get a 3X9 or even a straight 4 power for it would be great. And you will have a blast with it shooting up to 50-100 yards.
You can get a reasonable scope like a Bushnell, Simmons or other good scope for it at a dealer or Walmart for around 49.00-69.00.

Is there any reason to clean this thing before I shoot it like you would with a high dollar 7mm rem or can I just go run the hell out of it tomorrow and then clean it?

I'm not sure I'd add a Redfield to a .22 of any sort but I just put a Redfield Revenge on my AR15 and I'm beyond impressed. Keep in mind that Leupold now makes Redfield.
