Mine's a CZ 452-2E ZKM Lux - of recent enough vintage to be marked as made in the Czech Republic (my previous one, that got stolen, was made in "Czechoslovakia").

The only modification I've done to it - aside from fitting a scope and buying a 10-shot mag - was to strip the varnish from the stock (da357mag, I fully comprehend what you said about CZ varnish) and oil it with linseed oil.

I was aiming for what a fellow shooter refers to as the "English Finish" which requires a lot of applying oil until it soaks right through. I used - at his suggestion - off-cuts of wool carpet to hand polish the oiled stock.

It now smells and feels more like a firearm and if the stock gets a dent in it, it can be steamed out in a few seconds.

The oil sure as hell darkened the walnut stock a lot but the grain shows up really nicely when you take it into broad daylight.

Fantastic firearm - I usually use it with a suppressor and sub-sonic ammo and it's very quiet... the bunnies don't know anything's up until they realise that some of the others have dropped dead.

My favorite is the Henry Lever Action. Mine is the "standard" model and was less than $300. I have 3 levers and the Henry is the smoothest action of all

No one mentioned the S&W 617. Absolutely the sweetest revolver ever made. Next time you're in a store, try the trigger on one. I got the 4" barrel on mine and it is a ball to shoot. My friend and I sent 250 rounds through it in 15 mintues the first time at the range. The barrel was barely warm. As you pull the trigger it clicks just before bang, makes for real fun and accurate shooting.
With the speed loader and block from the Man in Michigan, it is super easy to reload too. Check out his handiwork at DS-10-SPEED

well, it was my 10/22. very accurate. then After I had done all you can do to one, it became my 75.00 mossy 44us with iron sights, shot sooo good that folks made my offers I couldn't refuse. Then it became my 100.00 Remmy 513T with irons, same thing happened, so I gave up and spent 500.00 on a remmy 40X I have 3 stocks for it shoots and shoots and shoots. one day in a pawn shop I saw a 399.00 price tag on a winny 52-D found a scope base that would work one the rearmost mount for the irons. now it shoots almost as good as the 40X. Quandry....So I guess it may be the one(s) at hand

Winchester Model 63. It is old, probably my great grandfathers gun and I'm 51. Also have to throw in my Colt Woodsman pistol. .22s are just fun to shoot.

They are that, jsanders.

They also have the added advantage of you being able to burn a couple of hundred rounds in one sitting without going bankrupt (even if you reload centrefire, .22lr still costs less per round).

I don't have a pistol licence as yet so my pistol shooting is limited to borrowed ones under supervision at the range. As I don't carry 9mm or .45ACP rounds, there's a limit to how many times I feel comfortable firing someone's centrefire pistol - no matter how much they might say "she'll be right, mate, help yourself" - but I've generally got a few boxes of .22lr on me so the .22 pistols are ages of guilt-free shooting while the other shooters use the centrefire cartridges they spent good money, or time reloading, on.

sentimental favorite is the old winchester 74 that i learned to shoot with. for all around hunting and plinking it has to be the old nylom 66 followed by the henry lever action.

TWANG!!!!! There go the old heart-strings. Waaay back in the latter half of the 1950's I taught nature and field sports at a mammoth Boy Scout camp in Northern Minnesota, including Marksmanship Merit Badge. For that we had a couple of Mossberg target rifles with receiver-mounted peep sights that I fell in love with. Those Mossbergs were the seed of my lifelong interest in firearms.
