IMO, the best all around .22 is the Marlin 39 series. Quality, through and through.
Of the new breed, the S&W M&P22 is coming on strong.

Well my old M60 for nostalgia's sake but practically I'd go with my M795...

Picked mine up yesterday, installed the large loop lever and can't wait to put some rounds through it. I have a 60 year old Weaver scope I want to mount to it. It's the Weaver G6 and its just a straight black tube, so you get that real vintage look to it. I did use some snap caps in it last night just to get the feel for the action and the trigger. . . Action is butter, but the trigger has some grit after the hammer goes home. Gonna drop it off at the gun smith to see if he can work the grit out of it.
It's a beautiful work of art.

I currently own two .22 caliber firearms. I have a Ruger 10/22 rifle and a Browning Buckmark. Both of these guns are a pleasure to shoot and I am proud to say are very accurate in my hands. The Buckmark is stock and was easy to zero in the adjustable rear sight. I scoped the 10/22 with an inexpensive Walmart scope.

I really enjoy shooting the Charger, which is a heavy pistol version of the Ruger 10/22.
