This is for the benefit of any newbies that have asked that question, and got hit with the standard response from the old-timers to try several types of ammo to find out what YOUR gun likes.

I was just cleaning up some stuff in the playroom and came across an old "ammo test" target for one of my 10/22's. This shows why you really should try as many different types/brands as you can to answer that question for yourself.

For reference, the black dots are 3/4" target pasters, 5 shot groups @ 50yds.
The one hole that is x'ed-out was a called flier. (I sneezed and had an AD.)

I think anyone should start out with Federal and move towards Winchester. Remington Golden being last of course

Try CCI Velocitors they shoot nice out of my gun.

I agree with the OP. The only one I would stay away from is Remington, their rimfire ammo sucks!

As much as I like to shoot, I like darn near anything that goes bang.

I will not own a .22 that won't shoot Walmart bulk packs - period. The Federal bulk and Winchester 333 (when I find it) are what I use the most.

I stay away from Remington rimfire ammo as it's the worst I've seen...

I like the walmart Federal bulk packs also! Great ammo at a great price. Every now and then I'll take a ride to Cabelas and treat myself to some Wolf match ammo though.
Funny thing--my ruger mark III doesnt really like the winchester stuff (the 333 pack for about 10 bucks). But my marlin60 likes it just fine, so I keep plenty of that on hand too.

And I'll say it too--stay away from the remington rimfire. Boy-howdy does that stuff suck! I like the remington for my 9mm though. Happy shooting!

I find it interesting the overwelming opinion that Remington was the worst shooting .22 RF ammo. I bought a bulk pack last summer because that was what was available and I was totally amazed when it produced 3/4 inch groups or better at 50 yards out of my 10/22. The 10/22 has been tricked out but is all Ruger parts. I shot several 1/2 inch groups that day but that was not the norm. I bought another Rem Bulk Pack a week ago and am anxious to see if I get the same performance. I also bought a 50 round box of Rem. Eley Match ($9.95) to see how they compared. One observation is that there is not a lot to choose from these days on the dealer shelf.

This is clearly not written to say anyone else was wrong on their ammo evaluation but to again highlight that each firearm is an individual and you have to see what they like. My 10/22 just happens to be a cheap date!

I'm pretty much in the same boast there. I got a deal on some of those Federal bulk packs just before the prices went all nuts and bought a ton of it. So that's what I'll be shooting for the most part for a good while. But getting it at under 14 bucks per 1500 rounds was just way too good top pass up. I have about 10-12 boxes left to get through.
