Weatherby Mk. XXII.... Cadillac of .22lr's?
4 Attachment(s)
Originally made for Weatherby by Pietro Beretta SpA of Italy from 1964-'69 then passed to Howa In Japan from '69-'81, and finally production moved to the US until 1989 when the rifle was discontinued. It has the distinctive “Weatherby” stock style with prominent Monte Carlo, cheekpiece, skip-line checkering and high-gloss finish. The MK. XXII autoloaders were beautifully made and expensive compared with others in its class. Its 42 in long with a 24 in barrel. it has a selective fire system allowing you to shoot in semi-auto or single shot. the safety is located at the rear of the receiver, and is operated with your thumb. the open sights are wonderfully made and have flip up leaves for 50, 75, and 100 yards. Another neat feature is the user adjustable trigger, allowing you to tailor the trigger pull to your liking using a allen wrench.
Heres pics of mine, not sure when it was made, but it made in Italy with a sn# 27XXX. it has a center point 3-9x32 scope and a M1907 sling (which i find very useful after watching some WWII training videos....)

I had one, clip fed just like yours only I had a Weatherby scope with it. Great shooting gun but I paid $200 for it and sold it for $1200 to Cabelas. Needless to say I took the money and ran!! :)

They have a new one from Germany on Collector's Firearms for $899.95. I heard somewhere that Anschutz is producing the new ones.

I bought a Weatherby XXII shortly after I graduated from high school in 1966. I used it some in the 60s, but it has mostly been sitting in my safe since then. It is still in very good shape. It has always been very accurate. I did take it out to shoot it against my custom built Ruger 10/22. The 10/22 has a heavy GM barrel and will out shoot the Weatherby, but the Weatherby shoots quite well.
