Hockalouis, do you have any problem with getting the mags on the 795 to eject cleanly? Everyone of my 5 mags hang up and need to be helped out of the gun. That was a real time waster when I did an Appleseed Project event.

Love the gun otherwise - just the magazine problem

Wow we have a few nasty people on the forum.

If we are talking about a real bug out situaltion, on foot carrying everything in a pack, I think a 22lr would work quite well. I could easily carry 500 rounds of ammo and a side arm in the same caliber as a back up. And there is a big difference between some dumba$$ trying to shoot his lawer and a skilled, trained person hunting and defending themselves. I compete with a 1911 in 45acp. But I could easily defend myself with a 22lr. I do not carry a 22lr. I carry a 9mm or a 45 depending on the circumstances. But in an emergency I could defend myself with whatever I find available.

Another thing to think about is the fact that 500 rounds of anything other than 22lr will take up too much room in the pack...not to mention the weight. I think you would go through 25 shotgun shells pretty quick in a survival situation. And the containers are similar sized.

Just for the record I would be hunting small game. I dont plan on shooting deer or elk with a 22.

I would say that a 22 is legal but I would want something bigger if someone was charging me. Hitmen usually have the advantage of suprising their victim.

My "go to" rifle is a 10-22. I need it more for pest control, Stray dogs, and anything else that threatens my chickens. I agree w/ BAMAshooter, I'll ruin you're day w/ a.22lr!

I would probably use a single six or my Rem' 511

Eject? LOL As in drop free!? They do not. It was designed 50 years ago. And a value despite the trigger. A reliable 10-rnd removeable factory magazine in a $99 semi-auto can't be dismissed nevertheless. A new factory spare mag was the Valentine's Day gift I gave a girlfriend I was breaking up with (and wanted better armed before I left her alone).

Ruger 10/22 takedown, marlin papoose, sig 522, a Troy/tacsol t22( heavily modded 10/22), and the Awesome 1022 makeup that Magnum research is doing. The T22 is my 1st choice, and the papoose is my second.

Sticking to .22 SA Rifles, here are mine:

S&W M&P 15-22:

Ruger 10/22 (M1 Carbine Conversion Kit):

Sig Sauer 522:

GSG 522SD:

GSG STG44-22 (I only have a Pic showing the Rear Sight comparison between my AK47-22 (Left) and STG44-22 (Right) for the moment...):

(Web Pic of what it looks like...):

Cheers!

I have a remimgton 597 that I love, they had problems with the older plastic magazines but the new metal ones work well. I havent had any failures with mine so far. Another downside ius that they dont make a nice hi cap magazine for them like the rugers. I almost wish I got the 10/22 because they have good aftermarket support.
