No surprise that the custom gun out shot the stock one and I'd bet a lot would have to do with the terrible trigger on the stock one. Given the choice, I'd take the stock one though and modify it to suit my needs. That's why I love the 10/22 so much, because there's so much out there you can do as much or as little to it as you want to and truly make it exactly what you need/want.

You said tge trigger is terrible,why? I bought a stock 10/22, but have not shot it yet. I see trigger kits, but they are as much as the gun itself!!

The trigger pull out of the box is gritty and around 6 to 8 lbs. Mine was around 6 until I installed a Power Custom Hammer kit:
(http://www.midwayusa.com/product/607022/power-custom-competition-hammer-ruger-10-22). I also polished everything in the trigger group and now it's about 3 lbs and smooth. The difference is amazing. It's not a target gun, just small game and plinking so this suits me fine, I understand the whole trigger groups you can get are even better but are pricy. The 10/22 trigger group is very easy to take apart and there are many videos on You Tube.

Thats the worst shooting kidd barreled rifle I have ever seen. Most will drop 10 rounds right around an 1" or less. Must have been shooting bulk ammo. I think I have less than half in my custom, looks the same with a stock reciever and bolt but a 1lb trigger, sure shoots better.

If you look in the Gunsmith section, There is a sticky. One of the members will fix your 10-22 trigger group. There are a lot of compliments from the shooters that had theirs done.
