Default Stinger chamber. Anyone got one ?

Hi all. I am thinking of re chambering my 22 dedicated spikes upper with a PTG stinger chamber so I can use CCI stingers for small quarry. Is anyone out there using one of these chambers and what kind of accuracy can I expect with stingers ? Also, will this effect the accuracy when using normal HV rounds ?

most 22lr can use stingers out of the box. i would contact spike's and ask them about the chamber its liekly already good to go.

How far you planning on shooting stingers. When they fall back to a subsonic level accuracy takes a dump. and fro stingers that somewhere Plus and minus 100 yards. Accuracy with a standard velocity round"1080 fps and less" will offer more accuracy at most any range but along distance even more so. The velocitor rounds is faster than the stinger and can give you a bit more distance before becoming unstable and with both you have to see how well your rifle shoots ether one . It is practical for a bolt rifle with the standard velocity ammo likw wolf /sk and better to shot sub"1 at 100 yards. I use 40gr solids for small game hunting and shoot head shots.

You can shoot the Stingers from any .22LR. On certain models, the manual recommends not to use them or the Velocitors, but that's another matter. I am skeptical about the "dedicated" Stinger chamber. It sounds like marketing.

Stingers are not new. They have been making them for 30 or 40 years. And now someone comes out with a stinger 'chamber'. I agree with Mercator "It sounds like marketing."

Green Mountain used to make a Stinger barrel in .920 for the 10-22, it's a real barrel with a correct chamber and different twist. I believe you will find most Bentz (Target) chambers won't chamber the Stinger. I thought I wanted one of the barrels for a minute but just started using Velocitors instead. My destructive rimfire is a Marlin bolt .22 mag with the scope sighted for the 30 gr. polytip ammo, I like it and it will go some better than 100 yards, as long as there is no wind.

They go through most of the barrel issues in this thread.

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to post replies (and link info p35bhp55,THANKS)) but we are a little off topic. I know that the stinger rounds will be useable in a normal "sporter" chamber but what I really wanted to know was if I had the "stinger" chamber done on my spikes would it improve the accuracy of the stinger rounds up to a range of 100-125 yards ? And would this have any effect to the accuracy of normal size (length) .22LR HV rounds ?Any further feedback, even if its only a personal opinion or guess would be really appreciated.

The chamber would have a much smaller effect than the twist rate. Twist rates are Always a compromise so they work on the 'common' bullet weights. On a custom barrel the twist rate can be ordered to match the particular bullet you want to use. ymmv

Having your chamber done as a Stinger chamber may improve the accuracy of the Stingers by getting the extra but of length for the longer Stinger shell, and if they cut it for the Stingers rim thickness. The downside is that it would only be really great for Stingers. It could increase leade distance for other rounds, or distance from the chamber to the rifling. I would expect less accuracy out of most other rounds.

So do you really want to commit to Stinger use? If it shoots OK with Stingers and does better with other rounds, I'd leave it alone. 100 yd performance is kind of tough to really wring out if a semi-auto .22. The lighter bullet of the Stinger makes it good up close and inside of 50 yds but that same light weight, makes it drop speed pretty quick as it goes further down range.

The CCI Stinger was the first hyper velocity .22 LR cartridge, and provided a significant increase in velocity and energy over standard rimfire rounds. The Stinger case is longer than that of the Long Rifle (approx. .71 inches (18 mm) versus .595 inches (15.1 mm) for the Long Rifle) but the plated hollow point bullet is lighter and shorter at 32-grain (2.1 g), giving the same overall length as the Long Rifle cartridge.
