Default Is it still hard to find rimfire rounds?

I just bought a 10/22 and I can't shoot the damn thing right now because I couldn't find any ammo. Went to Walmart, Dick's, and Cabela's and they were all cleaned out of .22lr, .22 mag, and .17 HMR rounds.

Funny thing was, they all had plenty of the "scary assault rifle rounds" like .233 / 5.56x45, 7.62x39, and .308 / 7.62x51.

I'm still having trouble finding .22LR, also. Very frustrating. I have some but I want a couple boxes of Federal bulk. None to be found.

2 weeks in a row I have run into bulk ammo at a Wal-Mart. 1st week it was 325 packs of Fed Match ammo for $18.97. 2nd week was Fed 550 packs for $23.97. Both times I bought my limit of 3 boxes. Already sold a box of the 550 to a coworker for what I paid. Went to a gun show this weekend and spotted both kinds for more than double what I paid.

The Wal-Mart also got CCI Mini-Mags HP. I passed on those. I would have bought them if they had been non-HP.

Near me bug locally the retailers seem to think the bullets are gold plated. $10 for a box of 50 rounds. They can kiss my sunny disposition before I buy at those prices.

Winds,

If you get south along the I80 corridor between Princeton and Peru I will sell you a couple boxes for what I paid for it.

Cabelas in east Hartford CT has a ton of .17hmr, .22wmr. They also have 1000 round cases of 556 forget how much it was tho. The Walmart by me had a few 100 round boxes of cci standard velocity. I say had because

I'll keep that in mind. I'm not down that way often, though.

Rumor has it WM gets federal bulk packs here in Erie but I've made daily trips for a year now and haven't seen any signs of it. They do have a couple CCI 50 round boxes occasionally. I have several 22 rifles and a few pistols but I won't shoot them until ammo is more available. Not able to take my Grandkids shooting really sucks. BB guns in the back yard only goes so far but still teaches the basics.

Before you pull your pants down realize that a lot of us that are small local gun store owners can NOT get any .22 ammo at wholesale to offer to you at a non-gold plated price. For me I have to find what I can on the internet or wherever and then pay to have it shipped to me. Then I can at least have some on the shelves if someone needs it. But go ahead and shop somewhere other than a LGS and maybe they can go out of business and then you can kiss Walmart, Ganders and what ever other big chain's arse you go to.

not impossible, but still difficult to find. early weekdays are your best bet around my parts, if you can work that out....

I found one good reliable semi-steady source for decent priced 22 and I loaded up (1 brick at a time) all summer when I got the chance. I don't feel desperate now, but I suppose I am always looking these days.....

I think the problem is everyone is looking out for it and will buy the limit whenever they find it.
