You don't HAVE to customize a 10/22, but the option
will always be there. On the flip side, should you ever accidentally damage a 10/22 there is an abundance of barely used factory barrels and stocks floating around out there should you need to replace one.
Also, the factory Ruger rotary magazines are extremely reliable and easily swapped in the gun. A range bag or jacket pocket will hold quite a few loaded magazines for those that don't want to go with a foot-long stick mag for the extra capacity.
