I think we kind of hijacked this thread...but what do you think 9mm out of a hand gun, or 22 out of a rifle?

given a choice, for SD/HD uses, i'll have to go with the 9mm handgun.

but, what if a person only had a 22 rifle? sometimes, you have to go with what you have or what is available.

I would choose the 9mm over a 22rf any day of the week...But with CCI ammo in my 22 rifle, I would not be scared, and I am overall more accurate with my little carbine than any pistol, and we all talk about shot placement

If it were a woman marksman or a man with time on a pistol probly the 9mm.

At the end of the day a .22LR will make you as dead as a 9mm . I don't subscribe to the " .22LR is a poor choice " crowd. I wholely disagree . It might take a rd or two more and you might need to be making headshots but a .22 is so easy to shoot I don't see that as being a problem . You shoot a man in the face with a .22 at close range , hit with several shots . His brain will be a big pile of oatmeal in just a few seconds.
I used to own a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag until my 14 year old daughter (at the time) wanted to shoot it. She was appx 90 lbs soaking wet. Damn she fell in love with the 44Mag and could out shoot me. Size don't matter, Caliber does

While I feel safer with a 9mm on my hip, I still wouldn't want to be hit with a 22.

The 22 will work, but compared to the 9mm it's just not as effective! If it was as effective we would all strap one or our hip! Much cheaper for most guns and ammo! 22 has its place in society but not ideally, for SD! Nobody wants to get hit by either. Gun of choice vs gun of choice, 22 vs 9mm, your out gunned! Many people win against the odds. Some people roll wit 22 for valid reasons, nothing wrong with that! But the overwhelming majority of people that carry or depend on 22 for SD over 9mm, does it for other reasons, besides the thought that the round is just as effective!

Mahall... we all understand your position. You'd pick 9mm. We get it.

You don't have to single-handedly post a rebuttal or another thought, that you've already said several times, every time someone else posts...

Don't know, guys. Common sense says 9mm. But, my 10/22 with a 25rd mag could present a problem to Mr. Bad Guy.

never let the facts confuse the opinions!

seriously, the 9mm is the choice to make for sure. bigger, faster and more energy. but, my theory is to be well practiced with any and all firearms that i own. if my 22 pistol was the only one i could get to, then i can be able to defend myself with it if needed. what if my 12 ga O/U was the only shotgun i could get to? not the perfect SD/HD shotgun for sure, but better than nothing.

it's good if a person has choices, but not everyone does.
