Second strike option

Just wondering why no one that I know of has a rimfire rifle with a second strike option or double action ? I think it would help out alot , I have a 10/22 thats my experiment mule and I think im going to toy with making it let you give it another hit before ejecting a round . I dont really think it would be that hard to do . Would you guys not buy a rimfire like that ? If I am wrong someone jump in

I just buy better ammo. ;)

My experience, especially with rimfire ammo, is that I can't get a misfired round to go off by simply striking again in the same spot. I remove it from the chamber, rotate it and try again which "usually" works. Maybe it's just me.

Yep, what he said...

It's going to be tough to re engineer the Ruger 10/22 to double action. I would think the double action trigger pull would be pretty hard to pull. Since rimfires ain't defensive weapons but are meant for plinking or hunting mostly you usually have time to rack the bolt in the event of a misfire. Also like previously mentioned, you would likely have to turn the cartridge so that the firing pin would strike a new spot on the rim.

have you ever taken one of the misfires apart? after looking into about a
dozen of these I noticed a pattern

the ones I opened up lost their primer either before or after the pin strike right
where it hit the rim, a second strike on a clean brass rim won't fire anyway

if you could find a way to rotate the cartridge say 90 degrees and set the
hammer for another strike it would possibly work

a lever to reset the hammer might be simple, but getting the round to
rotate would take a lot more work

if you had a weapon with a weak hammer/striker spring or firing pin trouble
a second strike might fire those if the first hit didn't dent the rim enough to
flake the primer off

Odd thought: Maybe it would be easier to make the 10-22 dual wield firing pins? They could call it the "snake strike" firing system or something-two hits every time at 90 degree angles.

you need to patent that before ruger steals it...

totally impractical but a good marketing tool lol

DAMN IT !!! I was just going to post that ! Oh well mine will have a 2nd hit with 4 firing pins and redundant heating element to bake fire the round !:D At any rate its going down the tube , im tired of running over duds and marlins 60's with the mower

Second Strike...hrm...sounds like you need a Marlin 39A lever-action!

If it goes CLICK instead of BANG...you just thumb the hammer back & try again!

Of course, NOT using Remington Golden ammo will resolve most misfires...never seen ANY ammo that dud's so often as RGB's.
Not even cheap russian & chinese dirty junk.

Read my Marlin FTE repair thread for resolutions to the infamous misaligned ejection spring Marlin jam, which you can often fix with nothing but a Nickel.
Nickel high & Nickel towards center is your gauge. (thanks to ArrowDodger of RFC for the pics/concept)

If that don't work...go here for the other things you may need to know...

If you truly feel the need to kill a Marlin, send it to ME instead!! I've resuscitated bunches of 'em :)
I'm waiting until I get 4 together so I can make a 4-mounted anti-aircraft gatling setup...
I wanna shoot down some of those vampire bat/giant mostquitos they grow here in Florida ;)
