Scope rings

I got my first 10/22 today. I purchased a Bushnell banner 3-9-40 (I know, I went cheap). How do I know what size of rings that I need.

Read the box or manual.. it will say either 1'' tube or 30mm tube... I'm pretty sure yours will be a 1'' tube. You can also get low medium or high. A safe bet is medium

nothing wrong with banners. i have 3 of them. they are not like my 3200 elites but, i didnt pay elite price for them. all mine are 4x12x40. thinking about a 3x9x40 for a marlin model 60

I like the weaver quad lock mounts. Get your mounts at walmart. If they don't work you can take them back. I would try a medium first. If the scope hits the rear sight (it flips down) you will have to go with a high mount.

When you sight your rifle in, get your rifle hitting close at 20/30 yards. Then zero it in at 70/75 yards. A 22 LR drops about 6" in 100 yards. At about 70 yards is where the bullet really starts losing steam, almost like it hit a wall. If you sight your rifle in the way I instructed you will be able to aim dead on for the effective range of the 22 LR.

Ok, here is my issue. I got the banner scope, the purchased 1 inch rings that fit scope. Issue is that the rings are way too large and will not fit on weaver style rail.

Many 22s have an 11mm Dovetail rail that could be the case with yours.

Can you post a pic of your rings or your receiver?

You'd have to buy an adapter of sorts. I'm not sure what their called, but it goes from the dove tail mount to a weaver style mount.

Can you take the rings back? And exchange them for the proper ones?

Anna_Purna 09-02-2013 06:32 AM

You can go with an adapter, but that will also raise your scope up, and introduce another possibility of something coming loose over time. If your problem is the scope base not grabbing hold of the dovetail, or weaver rail, (whichever ever you have) I would try and take them back, and if you have to send them back and eat the shipping costs, maybe try and sell them on Ebay for close to what you paid for them, and getting the right rings for your gun.
