Default Scope for M&P 15-22

Just bought a S&W M&P 15-22. I would like to put a scope on it and I was considering trying out a "scout" type configuration.

I have a 2X Leupold M-8 pistol scope on my Ruger Redhawk but, after hunting a full season and even killing two antelope with that setup, I've pretty well decided that I don't care for the scoped handgun concept. Maybe a red dot... But, that's a different topic for another thread sometime.

I have been considering trying that scope on the M&P. what do y'all think? Am I missing something that should be obvious that makes this idea a waste of time?

My past experience, when I sight that specific scope to a specific rifle and/or pistol and their partnership is a perfect match. They do not get separated, unless for maintenance and/or cleaning.

I pulled the Sightmark tactical scope from my M&P 15-22 and placed on the Mossberg ATR 100 30-06. Mossberg loved it and the M&P 15-22 has been giving me headaches since the move.

M&P 15-22 had a Simmons Prosport 3-9X40, the optics in it blur out at 8 setting. Put a Bushnell scope and a BSA Sweet 22, it seems the rifle does not keep the settings. The Ruger SR22 has no issues with the its BSA Sweet 22 and used the Bushnell and BSA Sweet 22 from the S&W 15-22, with no issues.

I actually, put the iron sights back on and at 50 and 100 yards the M&P 15-22 are hitting target in the black.

I took the scope off of my wife's 15-22 and put a Bushnell TRS25 on it. I have several of them. One is on my Ruger 10-22 and another on my 22-45. They have a 3 moa dot and 3k hrs of battery life.

Since it is a 22lr you need a shorter parallax setting. Most use 50 yards as opposed to 100 yards on a CF scope. I like shotgun scopes which are usually set for 50 to 75 yards. I had a Konus 1.5-4x32 on one 22 and it worked quite well. Keep in mind you will need a higher mounting height. You can use a 3/4" riser on the 15-22 or one of the AR15 mounts. You will also want to keep most if not all of the mount over the receiver rail not the forend rail. Mouting on the forend rail will make the scope a little unstable and it wont hold zero as well

I run a Nikon P-223 on my 15-22. Reasonably priced, excellent clarity. Zero'ed it once and it stays there.

That sounds like a great idea to me...heck why not?

Had the Leupold 4X EER scope on my Ruger Blackhawk long ago, and even though the picture quality was excellent, trying to hold the handgun at arms length with four times the magnification also gave me the impression that I was shaking the revolver four times as much.

Ever try holding a steady sight picture in an earthquake?

Don't know what the handgun scope parallax is adjusted to, but that does sound like a worthwhile idea to attempt to me.
