Not all of it "moron". One of the posters just bought one recently and that's why I commented here. I saw that this was a zombie thread but there was new info so I posted.

axxe55, I know that the AccuTrigger wasn't around a few years ago. But Walmart and Dicks got Savage to make a special run of these rifles a long time after the AccuTrigger was standard equipment on all MkII's. This was about 2 years ago.

Not only did Walmart sell their rifles as if they were no different than the regular MkII's but they put trigger locks on the guns so that you couldn't see they didn't have the AccuTrigger. They refused to take the trigger locks off so you could see if it had the AT or not and they wouldn't answer any questions about whether the rifle you were looking at had the AT or not.

It was a real bait and switch operation and it turned a LOT of people against Walmart as far as ever buying a gun from them again (including me). I bought a shotgun from them once but I will never buy another gun from them. That was a dirty deal they pulled and I'll never forget it. A lot of people won't.

Imagine getting your gun to the car and taking off the trigger lock (they wouldn't let you take it off in the store but strangely enough they would let you look at the triggers on other guns) and finding it was a stripped down version of the rifle. And of course they won't accept returns on firearms. It really, really stunk for them to do that. It was terrible in fact.

Dicks had some of the same guns and they did the same things with the trigger locks. It makes me wonder if Savage didn't put them up to it. If so they should have paid a big price for it. But no one knew for sure what their part was in the whole mess.

jeff, if i remember right, savage came out with the accutrigger on their centerfire rifles first, then the rimfires. like i said i bought my rimfire about seven years ago and it wasn't available yet on them. also the laminated stocks were not available on the rimfires yet.

i know what you mean about walmart. i will pay more at the gun store than buy any gun from walmart. several times in the past i have looked at guns there, and it's not the guns that turn me off, but the idiots working sporting goods. i went in a couple of months ago to look at a remington m700 sps advertised in a sale paper for $397. well i get there and want to look at one. the moron tries to sell me a remington m770! i tried to tell him that wasn't the gun that was in the sale paper, and he tries to tell me they are the same gun. i had one several years ago, worst excuse for a rifle and a shame on the remington name. the m770 and the m700 are not the same rifle i tried to explain to him, and he says to me, they're both rifles! i just turned around and walked out.

Ah the typical Walmart Napoleon. They get put "in charge" of their own little kingdom and they become instant experts. You don't work in the gun department at Walmart so you aren't a "professional" so you know nothing! You should talk to someone who has worked at a Walmart. They have their little pep rallies several times a day. Cheerleaders. What can you say? Only they aren't real cheerleaders. They're only "Walmart cheerleaders". They know "everything" about their little kingdom. They were trained for an hour and they have a week of experience. They're pros! It was a rifle after all. They're all the same aren't they?

i had a guy at walmart tell me the .30-06 cartridge was "only good up about 250 yards" and that i should get a .300 win mag if i wanna go any further. i said "i'll keep that in mind" and walked off, never to return again.

jeff, i know what you mean. i worked for walmart in fleet maintenance for many years and saw firsthand the idiots they would let transfer into our department who had never worked on trucks or trailers! amazing. lots of times when i worked night shift i was tasked with training these idiots, sure made for some long nights, never boring!

762, gee the idiot should have done a little research in history. during wwI, marines were shooting germans at over 700 yards with 1903 springfields in 30-06! the 300 win. mag will have more knock down power at a longer range than a 30-06, but the 30-06 got the job done at that range on man sized targets!

You know what "they" say about arguing with idiots. It's hard to tell who's who without a program.
