Savage 93 FVSS XP
Anyone have this gun? I'm looking to trade or sell a 22LR Ruger 77/22 all-weather for one, mainly to switch to 22 Mag. I also have heard very good things about Savage lately. The one thing that I don't like about the Savage is the Mag only holds 5 rounds. Ruger takes 10. Any thoughts? RThanks

I just got a 93 BTVS for Christmas, but I can't tell you much about it. Fit, finish, and balance are all great but I haven't hit the range with it yet. I'm planning to do that tomorrow. I have read that the savage 10 round mag is interchangeable with this gun and I would think the same would be true for the FVSS?
I can say that I'll be ecstatic if this gun shoots half as good as the reviews I've read about it, and I'll know for sure tomorrow. All though I did talk to one person that had one and he claimed his didn't shoot very well at first. Then after a couple of hundred rounds or so it starting driving tacks a 100 yards? I'll know shortly.

Tluker, could you be more specific about which 10 rd savage mag may fit? Or where you saw/heard this? If true, that sounds good.....

I saw it in several places, including Chuck Hawks' web site, after doing a search on google for my model, but after going back and looking again it was for the .22lr. I am guessing that whatever models the 10 round .22lr clips went to would have also been available in .22 mag, and so there should also be a .22 mag? I'll post a part# if I stumble across it this week. I'll probably get a couple of 10 round mags for myself. The only negative thing I read about is this gun (in .22lr) was in regard to the 5 round mag being junk, and that the 10 round mag was made much better. I think that was on field and stream's web site.

Cheaper than Dirt had them for $13.00 with good reviews but are sold out. They do make them though.

Well, we're talking 22 mag here. I can't see 22 mag fitting in a LR magazine, because of the considerable extra length......I think the 22 mag is also longer then the 17 HMR, also.

Yea, I saw MAG on that assumed magnum instead of magazine. I did see a 10 round magazine at 17HMR magazines that is suppose to be for both the 17HMR and .22 Magnum.
Oh, and the sarcasm really wasn't needed.

OAL
22 Mag 1.350
17 HMR 1.349
The 22 Magnum case was the parent of the 17 HMR.

TLuker; There was no sarcasm intended there, I was a little unclear about what you wrote. Relax.
c3shooter; Thanks. I was not aware of that. So you are under the impression that 22 mag will fit in a 17HMR mag then?
EDIT: OK, so yeah, Savage lists their mags with several calibers on the box. 22LR, 22Mag, 17HMR. Cool

I found the mag listed above. It is for the MKII, and also listed on Savage's site. I don't know about the interchangeability between MKII & 93......anybody?
