I started my boys on a Remington single shot bolt action. I think that was a good start for them. We really should get that Remy out more often these days though.

I've got a Marlin 60 I've had since the early 80's and I've shot countless round through it. The finish is almost completely worn off the stock (kind of like the look). I keep the gun clean and it still shoots just as straight as the day I pulled it out of the box. Love the gun. Personally I don't like the mag on the ruger, but that's just my taste. Another 22 I really like is the Henry lever action. That is one sweet little rifle. My cousin owns one and I may have to add one to my collection at some point
