It sits for longer cause it's higher that the other models I'm assuming. I thought it would move fast but that's not the case.

My Marlin 60SB just put Spiderman on the ground. Funny...I dropped one yesterday with my Ruger 10/22 DSP.

Before y'all ask...Spidermen are tree rats that jump from tree top to tree top. I like to follow them in the scope and wait until there is a safe shot with a large branch or trunk behind them. My Marlin is more accurate, but my Ruger was my first gun. Both are deadly on bushy tails.

Is a semi-automatic the best to start out kids with? I would think a bolt or lever action would be a safter choice. Take a look at the Henry .22LR. a bit more than either the Ruger or Marlin but a rifle to leave to your kids.

You make a good point about the bolt action. I delayed my purchase last week while I think on this. Lot of good things to be said for the bolt. Reliability. Accuracy. Ease of use.

As far as safety for the boy, I think the answer is single shot semi auto. Not planning to let him load more than one at a time to start.

At the end of the day I think this rifle will be for me, not him. I will buy him his own later on.
