Default A Rossi question

I bought a Rossi .22 single shot rifle (with interchangeable .22 mag and 12 gauge barrels) at a gun show today. It appeared a nice enough basic rifle and sold cheap. Now my question...If the rifle is broken for loading, I have no problem cocking the rifle BUT, it will not close. If I close it and try to cock it, it will not cock. The safeties position has no effect...

I am not familiar with this rifle. Am I missing something basic here or do I need to get it to a gunsmith??

Might be why it was cheap. The hammer should be down when you load a round and close the action. Does it close with the other barrels? If yes then the problem is in the action. If yes then the problem is in the barrel. They are very basic rifles but it sounds like something is misaligned, broken or not put together correctly. If you do not have the parts diagram it is available on line.

It's a model S12-223RS...The thing works like it had a Taurus lock and it was locked BUT the rifle is from 2002 and does not have such a device.

Perhaps the safety is broken. I have no idea why one even needs a safety on a single shot rifle.

No clue man. Wife has the .22 lr and .410 combo. Works like a dream. Something in the receiver I imagine. Take it by a smith.

No idea. Not really enough information on our end to know whats really going on. I have a 20ga (posted in DIY section) and never had a problem with closing or anything.

According to my son if it's not fully engaged or disengaged it can lock up.

The rifle is old enough to not have the hammer lock
