Freedom Group has not gained a reputation for outstanding quality control.
I'm sure a majority of 597's are fine. A "common problem" could still affect a minority of rifles.
Still, I remember researching 22 autos last year and everything pointed at "just get a 10/22 already". Really can't go wrong with them and no major price difference in my area compared to the 597.
