Default Remington 597

I bought my daugther a Remington 597 .22LR. The magazine will not feed the ammo. Has anyone else had this problem? I have tried many brands of ammo all with the same results. I also bought another new magazine, same trouble. The gun seems OK it is alway jammed in the mag.

I have indeed had this problem. In both my 30 round mag and my 10 round mags. Usually it is because of dirt or other debris in them. I clean mine on a regular basis and a small drop of oil to help keep from any binding. My 30 round magazine always jams on the second shot with 30 bullets in it but if I put 29 it shoots flawlessly.

They do work better if I only put in five rounds, also cleaning & oil don't seem to help. Thank's !

I've had mine for a couple of years now and it eats every type of ammo I put in it. I load the ten rounders with all ten rounds, but 25 in the 30rd mags.

Might want to give remington a call.

I agree with Goju. I load only 25 or so rounds in my poly 30 round mag, but my factory metal 10 rounders have been flawless. Call Remmy, I am sure they will make it good.

Hi ridgeline,
Please let us know if the new mags fixed the problem.

I also have a 597, Never had a problem with it, but then again I've only put maybe 150 rounds through it.

I'm sure you've made sure this didn't happen, but just to be on the safe side, make sure that when you're loading the mag that the rim of the round you're feeding in doesn't jump over the rim of the round below it.
