DefaultRange report- Savage .17 HMR

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I added a rifle to the assortment of clutter around here- a Savage Model 93R17. This one is a heavy barreled bolt action in .17 HMR, and my first thumbhole stock.

I added a Winchester bipod to the rifle, which came with a decent little 3x9 variable scope, and gave it a try. To my pleasant surprise, the rifle was shooting beyond my abilities with the glass that was on there. (Getting old ain't for sissies!)

I knew the rifle would need a higher mag scope for what I wanted to do with it (varmints at 200 yards), but my mad money was about depleted. This Sunday, I caught a gun show, and found a seller with a TASCO 6x24 scope that was desperately trying to sell some things Sunday afternoon. After arm wrestling, cutting for high card, proclaiming my poverty and saying nice things about his bird dog, we came to an agreement on a price.

This afternoon things finally cooled down enough for me to venture out to the range. The 25 yard line got the scope on the paper, the 50 got it refined, and the 100 got it dialed in. The below is 5 rounds of 17 grain Hornady polymer tip at 100 yards, from the bench, on the bipod.

Nice! I've been strongly considering the addition of a .17HMR to my slowly growing arsenal. And the one you've got there looks like a winner. And nice shooting too!

That's awesome shooting! I've been looking at one of those and it's near the top of my list.

Great shooting! I was thinking about selling my .17 last night, but now I want to take it to the range. Ha.
