Default Question regarding my Remington Fieldmaster 572

I purchased this gun new about 20 years ago and it has not been used for at least 10 years. I'm trying to figure out what I am missing here in that I cannot get it to dry fire. I made sure it was empty, pumped it, took off the safety and the trigger moves backwards slightly (no movement when on safe), but it will not dry fire.

I cannot recall the function of the action bar lock, but I was wondering if that has anything to do with it. I have tried to maneuver it - it moves slightly but no matter what I do, I cannot get the gun to dry fire.

Am I missing something? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Just as well dry firing is not good for rimfires.

Owner's manual HERE: http://stevespages.com/pdf/remington_572.pdf

Odds are, there is a problem somewhere is the trigger/sear connection- spring may have SPROINGED on you.

Make sure rifle is clear, cock, tap out those two pins, remove trigger group, clean with spray Gunscrubber or the like, and lay the M1 eyeball on the parts. RESTRAINING THE HAMMER with your thumb so that it does not slam forward, eyeball the parts, see what is out of place. not functioning. Do NOT advise disassembly of trigger group unless you are fluent in profanity-

If there IS a problem, pay a gunsmith his pittance to replace the parts.

Default Thanks

C3, thanks for the reply. I was starting to think I was not going to get an answer so I called Remington. They said the exact same thing as you did. I appreciate it.
