The French Army moved tons of Mauser parts and machinery to their MAS arms production plants. MAS sold various Mauser leans until 1986. The original small Mausers had a chamber marking of KAL .22 Lang Fur Buchsen. Those marked for export were stamped .22 Long rifle.
