I had an Idea today. I am bidding on a stock on ebay if I lose it I will buy the realy fugly one from Numrich arms.

Ok so I want to make a 513T stock into a nice looking bench rest stock with parallel bottoms

Here is the stock.

OK got a quote for a new ss match grade barrel and install on my action. Not sure if I want to go that route as he is wanting $570 which I guess is not bad seeing as he makes the barrels and installs them.

The real draw back to this build is the trigger. There are a few things that I can do to make the trigger a little better but it will never be of the quality of a anney or a suhl.

So I guess the question is Do I want to put $700+ into a rimfire worth $100?

I know I can get a new barrel from Numrich but I have one of them already and it is no good chamber is .003" over sized and spits powder and gas in your face. So I am warry of them. Plus they have soem ugly screw holes for the fornt sight. I don't want that and I know I can fix it but it takes cutting screws and peening them the sanding smooth and filling with some thing like jb weld. Then after all that work I would have to paint the barrel not what I want to do.

Ok I went to Home Depot tonight and spent $200 on stuff for my stock rebuild

What I am going to do is cut down the butt of the stock and raise the comb and create a flat bottom. I think it may have a diamond shape. I am unsure of this right now. The fore end is going to get shaved down as well and have a 3" wide flat base installed. I am thinking it may end up looking like a McMillan Edge or an Edge HBR

It would have been cheaper to buy a stock from Richards Microfit but then It would not be exactly what I wanted. I am making no guarantees that this stock will come out looking like a stock either. This is a first attempt and I am not known for mad wood working skills.

Ok guys

Stage 1: Getting the supplys. It cost me just about $200 for all the stuff I needed. A lot of this stuff is tools that I didn't have before taking on this project. Like wood rasps and files shapers sand paper clamps ect... The wood part I over bought incase I made a mistake. I am still short wood glue. I think I am going for some Gorilla glue wood glue or something like that.

Stage 2: Plans NEVER start something like this with out a drawing. So I traced the outline of the original stock and made my mods to the drawing. Here is what I have so far. You will see some diagonal lines that leads to a small line all the way to the back of the stock. This is going to be the only original stock left after I cut it down and Router it flat.


Here is a close up of the rear of the stock.



Now like all bench guns I am going to make the fore end parallel to the bottom of the butt. I am going to do this by removing wood from the fore end and adding it back with a 3/4"x2 3/4" poplar sanded smooth and held in place with dowels (Maybe). Then I am going to remove the rounded tip and replace it with a 20* straight cut tip.




Wish me luck in my endeavor, because I am really going to need it. I will keep you posted along the way.

OK boys there ain't no going back now.

Today I made my stock jig that will hold the stock while I use the router to trim the stock and make it flat. I am hoping this will work. I also trimmed down the outer edges of the fore end to flatten them out a little. I am going slow and taking my time. I stopped today because I felt I was rushing and getting ahead of my self. I have a 12x12" piece of plexy on order for my router base so I have a wider base and can see easier.

I still need to get some bedding compound and a new barrel.
