Default New sights!!??

Got a 10/22 and I need to beef it up just a little for the rifle team at the high school, I'm looking at some replacement sights, are these any good? If not any suggestions?!

For dedicated target shooting I would look for a bolt action rifle and a good aperture rear sight and a way to get the longest sight radius possible. If you have to use the 10/22 I'd look at these instead of the fire sight. You really need something that has fine, and repeatable adjustments.

These would be what I consider real target sights:

These would be another option somewhere in between:

Consider also the Williams fiber optic sights.

I think that was what his first link led to. Very visible, but not the most precise for target shooting.

I have a bad feeling about fiber optics for a sight; don't trust their durability. Peep sights are the way to go if your going no scope. I'm getting a set of tech sights for my 10/22, all steel, totally adjustable and rugged sight. Skinner makes a nice looking peep, but its a guessing game as to what height front sight you need. Tech sights come with front and rear, no gunsmith needed. Let us know what you choose!

jimmyp7162 is correct about those fiber optic front sights being rather fragile but in your case where it is for target shooting that should not be a problem.

Well.... I checked back with the rules and turns peep sights are illegal and you can only use open sight........ Back to the drawing board

Plastic fiber optics are for targets, not for combat drills. They are inexpensive are easy to replace. Fiber optic or not, your iron sights should provide a narrow focus for precision shooting. If you are serious about competing and not wasting money, go sight shopping in person, not online.

The fiber optic sights are highly visible. Like everything in life there is a trade off for this high visibility. The fiber optic front sight covers up small targets, forcing the shooter to guess where he/she is aiming. A target sight is made of steel, so it can be small. The small sight allows the shooter to aim more precisely.

You need to get a tool to install the front sight or take it to a gunsmith. It is bad mojo to beat in a sight with a dovetail with a drift punch and a hammer.
