New Old Plinker for me! - Pics Added

I had been feeling bad about no longer having a .22 of my own (I had a Henry lever action, sold it, bought a marlin .17HMR with the money, then eventually bought another Henry for half the price of the original one but it was for my girlfriends little brother for Christmas, so, its not really 'mine')

Well, i had my .17 rim fire, but its just not the same as a good ole .22

Guy locally had this up for trade, i offered cash, got it for a good price. Every one I've seen on gun broker is starting around 275-300+

Rossi M62-SA, .22 (I have a feeling this is the .22lr only version).Copy of the old Winchester Model 62 take down 'gallery rifle'. It's stamped interarms, so its pre-taurus, and doesn't have the stupid safety taurus added. Its got a higher serial number (6 digit) so i'm guessing it's newer than older, but probably late 80's early 90's, no real way to tell though from what I read. Looks like its been fired very little. The bore is good, and there is almost no wear on the top of the frame where the bolt moves back and forth. The wood is just about perfect. Not a single scratch or ding that I can see.

I'll also get a picture of it broken down later this evening. 1 screw, just slides apart.

Anyway....should be a fun lil plinker! I have a soft spot for shiny metal and pretty wood. I'll post up a family photo of that stuff later.

I dunno why, but i just love the old style stuff. I hope i never get into single actions!

Excuse my ignorance.....I am perpetually trying to learn. Is that a pump action rifle?

Dr. Marneaus 07-31-2012 08:38 PM

yes. it's a Rossi 62, copy of a Winchester 62, which is a pump action 'gallery style' .22 rifle.

same idea as a lever gun, but its pump. The pump action is what allows it to easily be a take-down rifle as well.

Give it to me. I'll shoot it for you and let C3 know how it shoots. I have shot a pump action shotgun but I don't really much like shooting shotguns (yet). I'd love to try a pump action .22.

If you don't shoot it soon the gun is going to think you don't like it.

We have (my family) an ancient .22 pump that has an octagon barrel. I cannot remember who made it though. I gotta see which of my brothers has that thing. I forgot all about it until I saw this thread.

Probably a Winchester. Though Rossi did make them with the octagon abrrels too, those are worth a lot more (500 vs. 300)

My girlfriends Sister (well i think it belongs to their dad) has an old winchester 62 from 1934 in the room she used to have back in IL, before she moved out here.

I fiddled around with it once when visiting out there, thought it was cool, then i found this bad boy!
