New to me Hawthorne Warrior
 

Just found another deal today. Its a HAWTHORNE WARRIOR model M820B

Its a nice little bolt action, tube fed .22 S/L.R

Stock is in great shape for the age, however the barrel is looking really, really ugly. Its original and I like that, but its really ugly/patchy, almost a green tint to whats left. I need to do something about that, depending on what its worth.

I paid 50 dollars. He was asking 100 and bought it a month ago for 100 but he decided he wanted a scoped rifle. I would have paid the 100 honestly, but I had to drive an hour in my gas hog to get it and figured it wasnt worth it if I couldnt talk him down. Its been for sale for a few weeks with no hits so thats how we agreed on 50.

I would like some info and value on it. I cant find hardly anything about it. Best I can find is that it was either made or licensed by Mossberg. I would guess 50s/60s. Thats about all I can tell would like to know more, thank you!

Did a little homework for ya. I love books. Anyway, looks like it was made by Mossberg, model 146, for Montgomery Ward under the Hawthorne name. Hard to be certain without the gun in front of me as to value but is say you got a good deal.

Remember Google is our friend too, this info came from another forum and dated from 2008.

My friend has that same exact gun only it says Westernfield instead.

Looks like a nice rifle, definitely worth 50 bucks now all you gotta do is reblue that nasty barrel lol. How is the bore?

Bore looks great. It shot a little funny though. Granted I did it off hand in under 20 degrees with a slight breeze so I was freezing my ass off Needless to say, it was not my most accurate day.

However the sight made it shoot way, way high. I adjusted the elevator all the way down and even at 30 or so yards its shooting a solid 4" high. Its weird. Adjusted to the top it will shot like 14" high. When I got it it was set right in the middle and went back to 50 yards and finally hit the paper with it. I was 8" or so above center. Im not sure how anyone ever shot this gun accurately at any close range.

Ar far as reblueing it I doubt its worth it and wouldnt know where to start. However, I may rattle can it since it was such a cheap gun. That or gunkote but im a little short for the next couple weeks right now so I dunno

Do you have any pics of the front site? Of it had been tampered with by someone that would change your POI.

I dont have a picture now, but it has not been modified at all.

You may be able to solder a small piece of metal on top of the existing sight. I've done this before and it worked out well. I don't know how handy you are. I usually make a few different sizes and just super glue it on and set my rear sight in the middle and test fire till its close at 50 yards. Super glue will hold it on for testing and usually can be popped of pretty easy.

Or just buy a higher front sight. Fiber optic ones are great!!!

I always like to make things harder than they have to be. Replacing the front sight would be the easiest.
