Default New M&P 15-22

I just get a new M&P 15-22 (my first 22lr rifle) and need to know what is the best for shooting (plinking) 50 to 100 yards, a scope or a red dot?

Any advice?

How much money is needed to be spend wisely in that in your opinion?

Thanks for any comments...

Congrats on your purchase!

I put a cheap ($100) red dot on mine and it does great. The whole family likes to shoot it and the dot keeps it simple.

I just bought a NcStar Mark III 4x32 for mine for about $70. It's pretty nice for the money. Someone else on here has the same one in theirs and they seem to like it too.

I have a $30 BSA on my wifes, and she shoots like a champ with it. I'd imagine for 100 yards or more, something with at least a little magnification would do better than not

I can shoot my son's Colt M4 22lr up to 50 yards or so with the iron sights just fine but he wanted a scope so we put a tru glo red dot on it and it does the job just fine.
