Default Need advice!

I have a gun show coming up this weekend and was thinking about getting a .17 hmr, but not sure if I want it or an hm2. I already have 2 .22 caliber rifles I want something different, but they seem really expensive and I'm not sure what caliber to go with. The main reason for this weapon is to play at the shooting range and maybe take out a few birds and squirrels and some gators in the summertime

The reason I don't want a .17 is because the ammo is so expensive

Same here. Too expensive for very little benefit. If I were buying, it would be a 22 mag.

The little .17 (Mach 2) seems to be drying up pretty fast. The .17 HMR costs me about $12/ 50 rounds. I picked up a Savage 93 bull barreled, and it is more accurate than my .22LR target guns.

It does not take much wind to move the tiny little bullets around, but I have gotten some 1/4 inch 5 shot 100 yd groups. Finding cleaning gear for a .17 can be.....challenging.

Didn't the .17 have issues in semi-auto rifles? I'm pretty sure a few years back all the ammo makers said use only in a bolt action or single shot. That and price scared me away.

Yes, they did- at least the Remingtons did. But there were also problems with .22 Mag auto rifles. But a bolt gun that will put 5 rounds in an M&M at 100 is still pretty neat.

C3: Do semi-autos still have problems with .22 Magnum? I have wanted an IMI .22 Magnum for a while.

Funny you should say that....last year when I bought my 17, I asked the LGS if he had a cleaning kit. He seemed surprised with his answer. (No, he didn't) But, he ordered me one up, and one for his shop, no problem.......

I don't have any problem with the ammo price, it's not like you're going to shoot 200 rounds in a day. And, from what I hear, yeah, the only problems with the round is in semi's. No issues with bolts....

I have an Otis system. It comes w/ a .17 cable. I just picked up more .17HMR ammo on line. 1st order was 17gr at 9.53 a box, just grabbed 4 20gr at 11.00 a box. With shipping 11.53 and 13.00. Cheaper then buying local. My.22mag is about 9.53 from the same place. Grabbed 6 boxes of 30gr. Has anyone had any luck finding .22lr? I'm sitting on a few bricks, but there is nothing out there to be found. Both .17HMR and .22WMR are great little rounds. Both of my rifles will shoot well under an inch at 100 yards. Great rounds for woodchucks and vermin.

Until last year, I just had the 22 LR. It was lonely, so I got a 22MAG & HMR to keep it company.
