I have a Marlin 795 that was all over the place untill I found the rear dovetail was loose,put a scope on it (was planning to anyway)and the factory grove is crap and the scope walks off the back.When the scope stays put it's dead on.

Put a dot of blue loctite/rtv/silicone under the mount & screw it down, then let it dry overnite
It'll never move due to firing again.

Proper torque on the barrel nut being the key...

Pillar bedding works wonders for 'em as well
