Bummer. I'd heard the opposite, that it depends on how long the used rifle has been there, and how much they gave in credit for it.
Worth a shot, at least. Might have to wait til after XMas, though. Gotta take care of the gifts for the wife before the gifts for myself

Default Mossberg 151 M-B

To Jay, USMC. I saw a photo of your two Mossbergs with scopes. I have an old Mossy, the same type. Is the scopes show specificly for the rifle or can I use any type of scope on the 151 M-B?

Thanks,

The scopes that are on those two rifles happen to be Mossberg M4b scopes, with a tube diameter of 3/4". Any scope will do, but finding a 3/4" ring for a 3/8" dovetail receiver is gonna be tougher to find.

Y0u might try Vic Havlin at http://www.havlinsales.com/

good luck.

Unfortunately, dsmguy passed away. His site was a free hobby site, and there was no one to pay for bandwidth on an orphaned site. It still works for me, may not work for you.

Guns from that era did not have an instruction manual with 3 pages of warnings not to shoot yourself- they usually had a cardboard hang tag that illustrated parts and basic instructions on loading and maint.

gunpartscorp has SOME parts. Sorry, no sights. Ebay, and the price is outrageous. Vic & Chryl Havlin (havlinsales.com) are MY go-to folks for anything Mossberg. Email or call them if you need a part. They are really nice folks to deal with. If you talk to Cheryl tell her C3 and his granddaughter send their regards.

Steves Pages has a small amount of info on older Mossbergs. Warning- the danged things are addictive. But my Mossy 144 LSB will shoot rings around some $2000 target rifles.

So sorry to hear about damguy. Thanks for your time and info. Will call havlinsales.com and mention you.
Trying to buy the correct year/model rear and front sights for my Mossberg 151M-B, both are missing. Shot it for first time yesterday, works great and sweet.
It was underwater in hurricane Katrina and I thought it was a lost. Just took it apart and the worst was barrel surface rust, no real pitting. Internals were amazing in good shape. Tore it down 100%, cleaned and reassembled. It shot perfectly, kinda hard without sights but it felt sweet. Guess I'm hooked.
THANKS

The Mossberg 151 M-B used an S-130 receiver mounted peep sight, and a S-107 barrel mounted rear notch sight. Will dig around for the front sight specs.

Now there is good news and bad news on that peep sight. Bad news- they are scarce and REALLY pricy. Good news- Havlin's has a replacement for those. Bad news- they are about $65.

There are also some friendly Mossberg folks over at rimfire central that may have sources of info. If you are looking at the rifle as a shooter, and not as a purist collector's rifle, scope it and be done.

Front sight- Mossberg 1A ramp sight. There are a couple of the front sights on ebay- $30-$70.
