They have a tendency to jam more frequently with certain ammo than a straight clip-fed semi., however they can be accurized to shoot sub moa for about $100. A buddy of mine bought a Shilen barrel and laminated stock for his and at 50 yds we could shoot into a quarter sized hole all day - in fact it actually got boring!
Then he bought the .22 mag version and had nothing but problems. My Marlins are accurate, reliable, and were inexpensive when I bought them, although now there is only about a $40 difference bteween the base model Ruger and the base model Mod.60. The same action has been used on almost all of Marlins .22 rifles for decades., and they used to make micro-groove barrels - they don't do that anymore on their centerfire rifles, and I'm not sure if they still do for their .22's.

I have 2 22 rifles that will shoot inside a dime at 50 yards. both are 50+ years old and I didn't have to spend an extra dime on them to make them shoot that good. That there is the main reason I am not a big 10/22 fan. Mine did ok but If I were wanting hit everything I shot at it was the Remington 511x I grabbed every time. That little rifle has taking more squirrels than you could shake a stick at it, and it even has a Coyote to its name as well. It even looks much better than the ruger ever could stock.

I have a Rem 512 single shot bolt gun that a friend found leaning against an apple tree in an orchard thirty-five years ago...I reblued it and refinished the stock. It's a tack driver. But it's only a single shot, so after my kids learned on it 15 years ago, it doesn't get used anymore.

I have had a Marlin 60 for years, I always hated the block open sights. I mounted a $30.00 BSA .22 special scope on it about 6 years ago and what a difference. Accuracy is no longer an issue. It eats everything from Aguila and CCI subsonics, to Hyper velocity ammo without a hick-up. It does have the Micro groove barrel. 400 to 500 rounds an outing and a quick 10 minute cleaning. I thought so Highly of the Model 60 that when I looked at .17HMR Rifles, I bought the 917V. Incredible accuracy. I topped that w/ a
6-24x40mmAO scope that came off my old open class .308. Great 135 yard rifle w/ 20gr ammo. I will say though, Nothing touches a Browning. I have a Browning A-bolt .22 mag. that is a pure tack driver. I wears a 3-9x42mm scope. 40gr CCI maxi mags out to 120 yards. .75"- at 100 yards. I hit the primer of a 12 Ga. shotgun shell at 50 yards w/ her. 1 shot, $100.00 bucks. Keep your Rugers! JP

I bought the 925M (.22mag) and it too is a tack driver, with the right ammo. Marlin makes a great product at a good price.

As a gunsmith for 27 years now,I've had to work on too many marlin semiautos to reccomend them. My vote is solidly in ruger 10/22 corner.

Default re 10/22 VS MODEL 60

I have owned both and still have a 10/22 both are great rifles but i would not choose either the ruger is to expensive for what you get and the marlin is kinda problematic for 115 dollars you can buy a stevens model 62 whitch is by far the best 22 i have ever owned i have fired 1 hole groups at 50 yds i bought one a few years ago fired about 100,000 rounds trough it and it never batted an eye then it along with four other guns were stolen i then went and bought another just like it and it is also very quality althogh you do have to clean it alot more than the ruger to keep it working perectly

No contest. Ruger 10-22 wins hands down from my hands on with both types, and a few others not listed in the poll. I have had one of my 10-22's for a few decades now, and the rifle is still capable consistently hitting a half dollar at 50yds. It shoots some brands of ammo better than others, but it always chews it up, and spits it out with no issues. The 10rd rotary mag is a very reliable and robust design IMO.

.... and this is comin from a guy who used to be a big Marlin fan.
