I have been in literally dozens of firearm forums and the comparison of these two guns seems to come up in all of them. The overwelming consensus is that the Marlin is the better gun out of the box, but there's much more aftermarket stuff available for the 10/22. You can make the Ruger the better gun, but it's gonna cost you. If you want a decent, reliable, and reasonably accurate autoloader right out of the box, go with the Marlin. If you like tinkering and modding, go with the 10/22.

I have both and the 10/22 is definately the better of the two. Another plus to the ruger is there are hundreds of accesories floating around.

I like to go a different direction that everyone else so i picked the marlin. Never shot one but I am not a person that jumps on the 10/22 boat. I had one sold it and have never really missed it.

I only own one gun at this time as I just recently became a gun enthusiast. That one gun I own is a Marlin Model 60. In my limited experience I feel it is a great gun. I have ran at least 475+ rounds through it in one day with no problems. It's definitely a trooper and mine is a used model that was manufactured in 1987. (I think it was '87)

That being said I have a friend (who is experienced with guns) with a Ruger 10/22 and loves it. My cousin (also experienced) loves them and to be honest after checking them out, I am thinking they are pretty cool guns and wouldn't mind owning one myself.

I don't think you would go wrong with either one of them.

While I really Hate RUGER, You thier attitude on parts, thier "I'd Rather sell only to the "Military and Police Attitude" and thier Overall desire not to make a consealable handgun, I find myself in a strange postion? I'd have to Vote for the 10/22? I like it's breakdown, I like the add on's ya can find cheap, I like how it fuctions! Now, all that said, Ruger as a Company still sucks! LOL

Decision Is Made. I Went Shopping Today And Had A Chance To Get My Hands On Both Rifles. First Impressions, The Ruger Won Hands Down. The 10/22 Had Better Quality, Feel, And Overall Appearance. Can't Wait To Break It In. I've Already Purchased A Set Of Williams Peep/fire Sights, And I'm Sure The Mods Won't Stop There. Thanks To All For Your Opinions And Suggestions.

I did the same and felt just the opposite. I bought the Marlin.

The Wider Stock And Heavier Barrel Of The Ruger Made It Feel Less Toy Like. Also The Ruger Action Appears To Be Less Complicated.
